I know I have been loud and obnoxious about the Knight Street construction project.

In 2011, Shreveport voters approved the widening of Knight Street and the addition of sidewalks and lighting along the short strip of roadway between Shreveport Barksdale Highway and East Preston.

Right now, as you can see from the photos below, the northbound lanes are closed. Folks are having to detour around on Flyer Drive or on the Clyde Fant Parkway to Shreveport Barksdale Highway.

The project lingered for years. In fact, not much was done in the early years as the city had many bond proposals to get moving.

But then it just sat and very little was done. There were some headaches getting the right-of-way from the property owners along the route. There were also struggles to move all the utilities along the roadway to get  the construction going.

The section between Shreveport Barksdale and South Pointe Parkway is complete. The final leg of this work is south of that area. But it's moving slow.

When this work initially started in June of 2024, it was expected to take about a year. But that didn't happen.

The initial contract was for 260 working days. But the contract was adjusted after some unexpected hiccups were discovered. The contract now calls for 309 days.

The latest date for projected completion is March of 2026. I sure do hope that's accurate, but we will have to wait and see. At least you know, once it's finally complete, I'll stop griping about it.
