There are some big elections coming up and, in Texas, emotions are running high. How far can you go expressing those emotions with signage on your property?

In addition to holiday season and spooky season, it's also election season and this year those elections are getting really heated ... especially when it comes to the POTUS.

Everybody has an opinion and many use signage to reflect that opinion but, how far can you really go backing your candidate in Texas?

You can't go 10 yards without seeing a "vote for so and so" sign these days. In addition to the usual "support so and so" stuff, you also sometimes see "So and So" said this or "So and So" did that.

The humorous and not so humorous things that people post can be very entertaining. Sometimes they get a little rude, making you wonder how far things can go when it comes to political signs and banners on private property.

Politicians can, and will, accuse each other of anything and everything to try and earn a vote. They'll even steal votes if they can but they are bound by certain laws. Meanwhile, their supporters can say or post anything they want. Pretty much ...

Texas law does not clearly restrict signs with offensive language. The law only restricts the time for when signs can be displayed.

Signs may not be displayed more than 90 days before an election and must be removed within 10 days of the results. - star telegram

Home or property owners’ associations, under Texas law, can restrict certain things about political signs on private property within their "jurisdiction" like size, offensive language or graphics, distractions to motorists, etc.

If your neighbors sign offends you, can you take it down? No.
