Jayden Daniels Beats Burrow in LSU Heisman Showdown
Monday Night Football featured the first ever NFL matchup between two Heisman Trophy winners from the same school in an epic LSU matchup. The Washington Commanders visited the Cincinnati Bengals for a nationally televised Monday Night Football game that had a pretty big following in Louisiana.
Former LSU quarterbacks Joe Burrow (Bengals) and Jayden Daniels (Commanders) were going to face off, and it had the purple and gold in a chokehold.
The Bengals were favored in the matchup, but it was actually Daniels and the Commanders who pulled out the road win, 38-33. Which was actually more convincing than the final score shows. The Bengals tagged on a late touchdown, and attempted an onside kick at the end of regulation.
In the Heisman matchup, Daniels looked like the better NFL quarterback, while Burrow arguably had better stats. The Commanders rookie completed 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He threw zero interceptions, while also rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown. While on the other side, Joe Burrow completed 29 of 38 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw no interceptions, but only rushed once for 4 yards.
The biggest difference in the game was probably Washington's run game, which featured two other rushing touchdowns from two different backs. Both Austin Ekler and Brian Robinson, Jr ran for touchdowns in the game. Zack Moss had a rushing touchdown for the Bengals, but it was the late touchdown after the game was basically decided.
While it wasn't the game that many NFL experts predicted, it was a fun night for LSU fans.
