What’s in the Water? The Best Players in the NFL are From Louisiana
It's a proven fact that Louisiana produces a TON of NFL talent. That's not hyperbole. That's not a theory. It's a fact. In fact, according to a recent study, Louisiana is top 10 in the country in producing NFL stars. According to Rainbet.com, there are currently 102 players in the NFL from Louisiana - which by their standards, makes us the 6th most likely state to produce an NFL player.
But, what isn't included in the study, is the quality of the player or the greats that came before the current stars. From Peyton Manning to Eli Manning to Kevin Faulk, there are some legends from the Bayou State.
And, when you start breaking down the current stars from Louisiana, the argument could be made that biggest stars and the best players in the NFL are from Louisiana.
How Good Are Louisiana Football Players?
There's so many options and people to talk about...but lets start here in making my case that the biggest stars and best players in the NFL are from Louisiana. Look at the receiving stats in the NFL. You can check out the full list here. Notice anything? A lot of the top receivers in the league are from Louisiana. Ja'Marr Chase is leading the NFL in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Malik Nabers, CeeDee Lamb and Justin Jefferson are also top 10 in the league. And that's just at first glance! Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jaguars is a Rookie of the Year candidate (we'll get into that in a second). And that's just looking at receivers. There's plenty of other stars from Louisiana at the wide receiver position.
But, since I brought up NFL Rookie of the Year, let's take a look at that list. The front runner for Offensive Rookie of the year Jayden Daniels. While not a Louisiana native, he did win a Heisman Trophy at LSU....so we'll claim him. But, if you just want to stick to natives, Brian Thomas Jr & Malik Nabers are both Top 10 in Vegas odds to win the award.
On the Defensive Side of the Ball, Edgerrin Cooper has been on fire this season for the Packers & is a Top 10 betting favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The MVP award list isn't chock full of the Louisiana guys but there are a couple. Ja'Marr Chase & Justin Jefferson are both in the Top 15 for betting favorites. And, much like Jayden Daniels, there's Joe Burrow. Joe Brrrrr...not an actual Louisiana native, but we did kind of adopt him while he was winning a National Championship at LSU.
I could breakdown linemen, Defensive player of the year, etc., etc., but I don't think I have to. I've made my point - the best and most electric players in the NFL are from Louisiana or went to college in Louisiana. Maybe it's the crawfish. Maybe it's the water. Maybe it's all the potholes that toughen guys up. Whatever it is, we're dominating the NFL and don't be shocked if a few of our guys win some hardware, go to the Pro Bowl or end up lifting the Lombardi Trophy when all is said and done.
