Pick Your Own Perfection! Discover Shreveport’s Hidden Blueberry Gem
Did you know that there is a farm just a short drive from Shreveport that lets you experience the magic of harvesting your own fruit? Hillcrest Blueberry Farm came to life in 1992. At first, the farm specialized in commercial fresh blueberry sales. However, in 2008, the farm decided to experiment with on-farm sales and that is what our community loves the most.
"We started with humble beginnings. Our store merely consisted of a small counter, a few you-pick buckets, and blueberry lemonade. Since 2008, Hillcrest Blueberry Farm, LLC Farm Store has experienced extraordinary growth," says the Hillcrest Blueberry Farm website. This experience truly is one for the entire crew. In July of 2016, Southern Living magazine recognized the farm as one of four farms considered "U-Picks Worth The Road Trips".
If you have been wanting to take your crew to pick blueberries, you will need to keep an eye on their Facebook page as they announce dates and times for "You Pick Blueberries" experiences. They opened for the picking season on May 31st, and so far, it looks like they have opened most weekends. The average price of a pound at the blueberry farm is $2.50 per pound, but that varies depending on the fruit's availability.
