Your tap water in Shreveport didn't get an 'F' grade from the Louisiana Department of Health for once, though being slammed with a 'D' grade is still grim. Just across the Red River, Bossier City's water quality earned a near-perfect 'A' grade, exposing a maybe not-so-shocking divide between the neighboring cities.

Bossier City Gets Nearly Perfect 95% Water Grade

The yearly study done by the LDH for every water system in Louisiana has given Bossier City's water system quality a 'A' grade for the last 3 years. Since 2021, the City's water quality has not dropped below a score of 95 out of 100 possible points. The 2024 score was 95/100 with a solid 'A' grade, like the last years.

This is great to see for a city that, less than 10 years ago, had its water systems plagued with traces of Naegleria Fowleri, a dangerous amoeba that is most infamous for its "brain-eating" characteristics. Bossier even caught the eye of famous environmental activists during the whole ordeal.

Shreveport's Water Re-Graded From 'F' to 'D' Grade

When the LDH first released the grades for 2024, Shreveport had a grade of 'F' for the city's water systems, but a recalculation of test samples moved the city's grade up to a 'D' grade.

The 2024 score is an improvement from where the city was the previous year, with a solid 'F' grade. What's more surprising is the rollercoaster of grades that Shreveport's water has seen just since 2022, from a 'C' that year to an 'F' the next, then another 'F', before that was corrected to a 'D'.

The city of Shreveport is well aware of the water quality struggle and is working as hard as possible to fix the water systems. The key issue in Shreveport is failing and outdated pieces of the city's water delivery systems, which are actively being fixed and replaced as part of the Clean Water Shreveport program.
