Shreveport-Bossier’s Ultimate Wishlist: Bringing Back the Golden Age
The cool thing about Shreveport-Bossier, and our entire region really, is that there's a TON of history. From the Louisiana Hayride to the Florentine Supper Club and everything in between. You talk to a local historian like Ernie Roberson or Cedric Glover, and you can learn all kinds of fascinating stuff - like did you know the brother of a Shreveport mayor shot Drew Barrymore's Great Grandfather? Now you do!
There's all sorts of little quirks, history and weirdness that makes the SBC a fascinating place. Unfortunately, as time goes by, our community loses things. Businesses go under, things change, and things that were charming or quirky no longer exist.
It happens in every community, whether you're Shreveport, Bossier or New Orleans. So, we asked the question - "what do you miss most?" and the responses we got are pretty much on money.
The Lost Shreveport-Bossier: A Community Survey
On Facebook recently, we asked the simple question "If you could bring back one thing you miss from Shreveport-Bossier, what would it be and why? Share your memories below!"
And the responses were pretty overwhelming. Some of them were just a general feeling like "The vibrance it had in the 80’s. Wish it was still that city." Others were very specific and pointed like "Bon Temps Coffee Bar, or Twine, both very unique and lovely places that gave personality to our little town."
But whether it was a specific location, a general feeling, or things like 'high paying jobs like GM and AT&T", it's clear the community is passionate.
Celebrating What Shreveport-Bossier Has
Before we get to the list of stuff we missed, I did want to mention one thing - Shreveport-Bossier still has cool things we should celebrate and things on the way that will be awesome.
The Norton Art Gallery is incredible. The Shreveport Farmer's Market is great. The Spring Street Museum is one of the oldest buildings in Shreveport...and it's an INCREDIBLE museum that tells the story of Shreveport. The list goes on. My point - we still have tons of awesome things that should be celebrated while we have them. Because as this list shows, those things can disappear if we don't love and support them.
Plus, with things like Chasing Aces on the way, the future could still be bright for the SBC. We just have to love those things while they're here, so they don't join the list below.
