It sounds like some kind of secret society or shadow organization, but Shreveport-Bossier City's 'Committee of 100' is dedicated to the betterment of our community.

What is the Shreveport-Bossier Committee of 100?

The Shreveport-Bossier Committee of 100 was created in 1961 and the purpose of the group is to, 'study, confer, and act upon any matter, civic or economic in character, which may be deemed to affect the welfare of the Cities of Shreveport and Bossier, the Parishes of Caddo and Bossier, and the surrounding areas of Northwest Louisiana.' The group does this through support of, 'any educational, charitable or civic enterprise deemed to promote the welfare of those entities.' The activities or organizations being supported must be 'nonpolitical in character' and nonprofit.

Who is a part of the Shreveport-Bossier Committee of 100?

As I was going through the list of members I saw a lot of people I know and have heard of over the years. They run the gamut from civic leaders to business owners and philanthropists. The website states that, 'Members are required to be the highest-ranking local executive of business and professional enterprises transacting business actively in Northwest Louisiana. Selection for membership shall primarily be based upon proven community interest and leadership.' In short, if you're a member of the 100, you're kind of a big deal!

What is the vision/mission of the Committee of 100?

While I couldn't find any changes or improvements to the area directly accredited to the Committee of 100 other than a large donation to Louisiana Key Academy in 2023, I think it's safe to say that the members do affect change in northwest Louisiana. Their stated mission is to, 'identify opportunities and needs within Northwest Louisiana, continually seeking the truth, and work with others to remove obstacles and silos and create pathways to success.' The group's vision is to, 'be the leader, convener, and catalyst in making Northwest Louisiana a thriving, inclusive community.'

I don't know about you, but I'm all in. I think we're on a precipice right now in Shreveport-Bossier. We'll either turn the corner and start taking care of business or we'll start a downhill slide we can't stop.
