The pro wrestling world lost a legend who innovated the sport with his unique style of high-flying violence with the passing of Sabu. While Terry Brunk made his name mostly on the East Coast with ECW, his name was known around the globe, and Louisiana holds a special place as a historical site for pro wrestling and some of Sabu's most extreme matches that highlight the unique approach he brought to the ring.

All of these matches are available on Peacock, where WWE has uploaded a lot of the old ECW episodes. Sabu also wrestled other matches in Louisiana outside of these listed ones, but they weren't taped and made available officially.

Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and Tazz defeat The Triple Threat (Bam Bam Bigelow, Chris Candido, and Shane Douglas) | ECW November to Remember 1998 | New Orleans, Louisiana

Sabu's first match on Louisiana soil, at least officially televised, was from ECW's 1998 fall pay-per-view, November to Remember. The pay-per-view is regarded quite poorly as a show altogether, but the action cannot be denied during this show, and especially not during this trios tag-team match.

During this match, nothing Sabu does can be described as pretty, but it can be described as violent and almost sloppy, which is something Sabu has almost mastered the art of.

Sabu explained that some of his botches were planned from the start, all a part of an act to make the whole wrestling show feel so much more real. Everyone knows wrestling is not exactly bell-to-bell unpredictable, but part of the fun is disconnecting and pretending it's all real, and Sabu understood that. If every wrestler on the show always stuck the landing and never tripped then everything would feel a little less real, but when Sabu trips over the top rope trying to do a flip it feels like really did screw up for real.

Sabu defeats Rhino | ECW on TNN #9 aired Oct. 22nd, 1999 | Westwego, Louisiana

Sabu was back in the Bayou State on this night in 1999 when he was called out by Steve Corino and Rhino at the Alario Center in Westwego for a vicisos matchup. The matchup was the first between him and the 23-year-old rookie Rhino, who would go on to make his name as an extreme legend following the footsteps of Sabu.

The match saw Sabu and Rhino throwing each other into the crowd, steel chairs are a signature of this era of ECW, and a folding table was thrown into the mix for taste. Most of the action during this bout is spent between an equal mix of showing off what cool moves Sabu can pull off, as well as an early look at the strength of Rhino.

Coolest spot might be when Sabu was getting a running start to leap off a folding chair, only to get a solid gore to the chest from Rhino, one of the first ones to happen on ECW programming. Actually it might be a leg drop from the top rope through the table from Sabu, or maybe the coolest spot is so cool it's too cool to explain here, so you should watch the match and figure it out that way.

Sabu defeats CW Anderson | ECW Hardcore TV #353 aired Jan. 29th, 2000 | Westwego, Louisiana

Sabu's last match in Louisiana (at least on TV) was on the January 29th, 2000 edition of ECW Hardcore TV, filmed in the Alario Center in Westwego, even if Joey Styles claims that the episode is taking place in New Orleans. In all honesty, the match isn't great from an athletic standpoint, but it has that charm of a Sabu match where you can't tell when he's actually messing up or when he's faking it.

The match is short, and it's presented in an otherwise entertaining episode of ECW Hardcore TV, so it's worth a watch if you've got a Peacock subscription already.
