Is Louisiana Really That Dangerous Of A Place To Be?
Louisiana is no stranger to danger. With crime being an expected part of life in places like Shreveport and New Orleans, the state has earned quite a reputation as a place of danger. A new study has determined just how dangerous Louisiana is.
WalletHub has compiled data to rank all 50 states by how dangerous each one is compared to the others. The data analyzed included stats like fatal work injuries, financial loss due to climate disasters, assaults per capita, law-enforcement staff per capita, unemployment, and many other statistics which all factor into the danger associated with a state.
Based on data on personal safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and residential safety Louisiana was ranked as the 1st most dangerous state.
The two biggest contributions to Louisiana's label as the most dangerous state include being the state with the second most assaults per capita and being tied for the highest financial loss from climate disasters. South Dakota, Mississippi, North Dakota, and Louisiana all tied for most financially lost due to climate.
Louisiana actually tied for first place when it came to the number of law-enforcement staff per capita, yet the state's crime rate is still 67% higher than the national average. Louisiana was tied with New Jersey and Wyoming for law-enforcement employees per capita, two states with violent crime rates of 200 per capita, compared to Louisiana's 3,389 per capita.
The 5 most dangerous states are as follows
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Texas
- Arkansas
- Florida
