A tiny dragon like creature that looks like it could be a Pokémon character has been found on beaches in Texas and it's dangerous!

Have you ever heard of a 'Blue Sea Dragon?'

Blue Dragons, also known as Blue Sea Dragons, are called Glaucus atlanticus in the scientific world. Wikipedia says they're 'a species of small, blue sea slug, a pelagic aeolid nudibranch, a shell-less gastropod mollusk in the family Glaucidae. These sea slugs are pelagic; they float upside down by using the surface tension of the water to stay up, where they are carried along by the winds and ocean currents.' Are you lost? I know I am!

Here's what we know about Blue Dragons thanks to The Dodo.

1. They can kill you.
2. They have camouflage on both sides. This makes them really hard to see from over or below them.
3. They're Hermaphrodites. That means they can produce both sperm and eggs.
4. They show up in confusing places. They're showing up in places they've never been seen before, like in California and on beaches in Texas. This is attributed to warmer waters and more storms.

What do you do if you see a Blue Sea Dragon?

Don't touch it! Yes, they're super cute but they're also super dangerous. According to, they've been seen in Port Aransas. Mission-Aransas Reserve says blue sea dragons feed on Man-o-Wars and sting just as bad! out of Houston, TX says, 'blue dragons ingest, store and concentrate their prey's stinging cells so their own sting is more powerful.' It's also important to note that their venom remains active even after a blue dragon dies.

So, with all of that being said, if you're planning on packing up the car and heading south for a little beach time before summer is gone, be careful on Texas beaches. If you get stung by a blue sea dragon, you may not die, but you could, but you'll also wish you had left those tiny blue dragons alone! Here's more from The Dodo :)
