Cowardly Vandalism Rocks Texas Tech Secular Student Alliance

Why not just let others do their own thing?

For the life of me, I don't understand why people don't follow the golden rule. It's there in practically every language and a version of it is in almost every bit of religious dogma, it's "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". It's a pretty darn simple rule and if we all followed it the world would be in a much better place.

Now what if I told you people from a religion that's popular overseas are tearing down the posters for church socials and bible studies? What if I told you that there are people who believe that you should be forced to believe what they believe? I think you'd be pretty mad if somebody walked into your Southern Baptist Church and told you it was their way or the highway.

Well, the same goes for people who claim no religion. They deserve to believe what they want to believe. They deserve to be unbothered and to feel safe in the spaces where they choose to meet. They deserve to congregate and discuss their non-belief (or whatever people who don't believe things want to discuss).

According to the Facebook post below, the Texas Tech Secular Student Alliance has had its materials torn down twice now. You can go ahead and pretend that it's a prankster or a plot, but we both know this is someone who thought they were doing a godly duty by ruining these heathens' day. I think it's also pretty obvious from the way it was torn that the vandal wanted to send a message (why not just take it down and throw it away unless you wanted to intimidate these people?).

I don't even understand what the vandal(s) are thinking. They certainly aren't going to convert anyone by being jerks to them. They certainly aren't demonstrating that they are serving an all-powerful god if he can't handle a paper flyer. I especially can't see a situation where somebody at the pearly gates thanks them for tearing a flyer down. It's just a cowardly act by cowardly people who are delusional enough to think they know what their god wants.
