They tempted fate with the question, "How could traffic around here get any worse?"

It looks we are all about to find out just how bad it can get. Dependent on which side of Red River you might be driving, there's a perpetual discussion about which road can be the busiest; Airline Drive in Bossier or Youree Drive in Shreveport.

It would appear that this coming Monday, February 3rd, Youree Drive will hold the exclusive title for the next several months. Granted, Youree certainly needs the attention, but it will come with a cost to drivers.

In a notice from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn they are scheduled to begin work repairing an approximate three-mile section of LA 1 (Youree Drive) that will include full-depth patching, milling and an asphalt overlay from Stoner Avenue to Southfield Road.

The initial work, which begins February 3, will include full-depth patching on the south end of the project near Southfield Road, progressing northward. This will require intermittent lane closures.

This full-depth patching addresses damaged sections of roadway down to the base to strengthen these sections, and is then followed by milling (removal of old asphalt) and replacement of new layers of asphalt.

Once patching is complete, the contractor will begin milling off the old layers of asphalt, which will also require intermittent lane closures, though special consideration will be given to high volume traffic times such as school drop-off and pick-up along this route.

DOTD is scheduling for the entire project to be completed in late June 2025, but reminds us that all work will be performed "weather permitting" so inclement weather could delay, extend, or alter scheduled work days/hours.
