Traffic Alert: US 80 Repairs Coming to Bossier/Haughton
Drivers on US 80 in the Haughton area can attest that it's certainly one of the roughest rides around, but it looks like that will soon be fixed!

Okay, before you begin throwing insults about the timing of this project, complaining how bad of an idea it is to do this at the same time the work is being done on I-20, we have to remember not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
If the work isn't done now, when could it be done? How much more damage to our vehicles do we need to incur on this stretch of deteriorating highway before we can all agree that a little inconvenience now can prove invaluable in the long stretch?
Just which stretch are we talking about? It's about a five-mile stretch of US 80 from the Flat River near Bossier Parish Community College to Merrywoods Boulevard just east of Platt Elementary School in the Haughton area.
In a notice from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn this section of US 80 will soon see an overhaul in the likes of an $8.4 million construction project.
Included in this project, DOTD says we'll see roadway base repairs at certain locations, milling to remove the old asphalt, and brand new asphalt paving.
Work is set to begin next Thursday, April 17 and it will be a lengthy project as DOTD doesn't anticipate completion until early 2026.
In the notice from DOTD, we read:
The first phase of work will involve full-depth repairs at pre-determined locations that address deficiencies with the base of the roadway and helps prevent future failures under the driving surface.
Once that process is complete, the contractor will remove the old, damaged layers of asphalt and replace with new asphalt paving on the entire length of the project.
Careful consideration is being given to peak travel times and school zone areas where congestion tends to develop.
