Expect Night Delays as DOTD Starts US 79 Resurfacing in Minden

While travel in the night hours will certainly be somewhat problematic, the results should be well worth any short-term obstacles.

In an advisory from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn that beginning this Sunday, August 9, they will will kick off a $7.2 million project to repair a 7.6 mile section of US 79 (Homer Road) through Minden in Webster Parish.

This project, which includes nearly eight miles of US 79, will extend from Main Street in Minden to the Claiborne Parish line, and will include full-depth repairs to address and strengthen the roadway base, concrete patching, milling to remove old asphalt, new asphalt paving, fresh roadway striping, and related work.

Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures, particularly during milling and overlay work, to allow construction to progress safely and efficiently.

The section of the project in the City of Minden (from Main Street to LA 531) will be conducted at night to help reduce the inconvenience to the traveling public. Work will be restricted to take place from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am in the city.

The entire project is expected to be complete in late 2026, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
