Startling Research Reveals Texas Most Dangerous For Young Drivers

New data indicates that more young drivers are involved in fatal crashes in the Lone Star state than any other.

In this recent study, conducted by personal injury lawyers John Foy & Associates, data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over the most recent five years, from 2018 to the end of 2022, was analyzed to determine which states have the highest percentage of driver fatalities among 15 to 25-year-olds.

While Delaware actually leads the country in percentage of young drivers compared to all driver fatalities in the state with 22.14%, Texas recorded a total of 2,671 young driver fatalities nationwide out of 12,387 total fatalities, which is the highest total number of fatalities of both young and drivers of all ages out of any state nationwide.

The Ten Deadliest States For Young Drivers

Examining the numbers, we see that not only does Texas lead the country in fatal car crashes involving young drivers, but Texas tops the overall list with 12,387 total drivers killed in fatal accidents. 

Obviously, there are a lot more drivers on Texas roads than many others, but this sobering statistic will hopefully lead to Texas examining the cause for these accidents in a search for improved conditions.

Commenting on the findings of this startling research, John Foy of John Foy & Associates stated, "The data reveals a concerning pattern of young road user involvement in fatal road accidents across the nation. The primary goal should be to reduce the number of incidents and ensure a safer future for young drivers and road users alike."

Foy goes on to say, "While it is highly unlikely that driver fatalities will be eliminated completely, identifying what certain states are doing differently could be accounting for these varying rates of young driver deaths. If larger states, such as Texas, achieved similar fatality rates to West Virginia, which ranked bottom, there would have been 2,503 fewer young driver deaths in the state over the same five-year period–a staggering statistic."
