Study Says Texas Teachers Rank #1 in USA for Being Overworked
Teachers rank near the top when it comes to people who are the most underpaid and overworked. They work well over 40 hours a week, don't get paid what they deserve, and often take money out of their own pocket to buy school supplies.
How about the frustration of dealing with misguided or misinformed state education boards that do more harm than good? That's just my opinion...and the opinions of many other teachers that I know.
Underpaid, overworked, frustrated, underappreciated and stressed...yet, they keep showing up every day and every year because they love their role in developing the minds and characters of children that they grow to love.
In Which States Are Teachers the Most Overworked and Underpaid?
Twinkl conducted a study to find out which states have the most overworked and underpaid teachers.
They surveyed over 2400 Americans and asked them two questions:
- How many hours a week should teachers work?
- How much should teachers get paid?
Then, they compared the responses to each state's actual statistics and recorded the difference. It may not be the most scientific study out there, but Twinkl was able to come up with enough data to make for an interesting read.
Texas Teachers Are Way Overworked
Texas teachers rank #1 in the nation for being overworked. Those surveyed believe Texas teachers should work 40.2 hours a week. However, they actually work 54.7 hours a week.
That 14.5-hour difference is the largest of all states.
