The Race for the Invisible Child is coming soon to Bossier City.

The inaugural event is set for Saturday, November 14, beginning at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of Airline High School's football stadium. The 1-mile fun run starts at 7:30 a.m. for kids 12 and under.

Early registration is $25 through today and $30 up until race day. Race day registration is $35. You can pay with a credit card online only at Sportspectrum's website, or with cash, check or credit card in person at the business on Fern Avenue.

Awards will be given to overall male and female finishers in the 5K race. They'll win a $50 gift certificate to Sportspectrum. 1st- and 2nd-place age group finishers will also receive awards.

Age groups are 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Strollers, wagons, baby joggers and any hand-pushed or -pulled vehicle will be allowed on the course, but at a walk pace capacity only. No in-line skates, roller skates or runners with baby strollers will be allowed on the course.

The race is being put on by Invisible Child, Inc., a non-profit founded to help homeless children in Shreveport-Bossier and the surrounding area. It assists in getting homeless children off the streets and into a 'forever home.' It also purchases school clothing, supplies, shoes, backpacks, jackets and anything else they need.
