Hurricane Maria Evacuees Find Shelter in Shreveport
Victims of Hurricane Maria from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have taken shelter in Shreveport. Sunday evening, a military plane full of refugees landed at Shreveport Regional airport.
More victims are expected to take shelter in town soon. According to KTBS, after landing, the evacuees were immediately taken to area hospitals in Desoto, Caddo, Bossier, Webster, and Natchitoches Parishes for treatment.
The effort to give shelter is being funded by the National Disaster Medical System, through DOD, VA, and Health and Human Services.
Currently, donations are not being accepted. However, a spokesman from Veteran Affairs says the group could use lots of prayers.
