If a new bill introduced by State Rep. Cameron Henry (R-Metairie) becomes a law, you could get sent straight to the slammer if you harass a referee.  What exactly does "harass" mean in this legal context?  According to Myarklamiss.com, the hefty fines and jail time could come to bear on anyone whose actions "cause a school or recreational game official to 'fear for safety,' particularly during a sporting event or near the venue."

Along with up to 40 hours of community service and counseling, anyone convicted under the proposed law could have to pay up to $500 in fines and face a maximum of 90 days in jail.  The bill will come to a vote in the upcoming annual legislative session after being reviewed by the House’s criminal justice committee.  The session starts April the 8th, but it is unclear exactly when this bill will be voted on.
