The city of Gulf Shores has canceled the Mardi Gras parade after a van struck several members of a high school band marching in the parade.

Victims were attended to immediately on the scene, before all 11 students that were hit were transported to hospitals. Some of the band members have been listed in critical condition.

The incident took place as the parade was getting underway, at approximately 10am local time.

Witnesses told the local Fox TV affiliate, Fox10, that a white van driven by an elderly man "plowed into" several band members. Another witness stated that band members were "run over" and other students tried to free them from under the van.
