The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a massive Freeze Warning across the Ark-La-Tex region. It covers over a dozen Louisiana Parishes, as well as Counties in Arkansas and Texas.

This Freeze Warning is in place until 9am on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025...unless extended by the National Weather Service. The warning is due to extended periods of sub-freezing temperatures across the region, possibly dropping as far as 12 degrees Fahrenheit in the covered area. But its not just the air temps causing concerns.

The National Weather Service also warns that the wind chill values will be plummeting further than the air temperature. Causing catastrophic conditions for the area.

This Warning covers a large area from roughly Tyler, Texas to Monroe, Louisiana. It stretches as far north as Umpire, Arkansas and as far south as Alexandria, Louisiana. To the south it becomes a Winter Storm Warning.

Concerns for potential hypothermia exist, which can happen through exposure to these temperatures without proper precautions. The frost and freeze weather conditions can kill crops, landscape vegetation, and other plants. It can also cause issues for exposed plumbing and infrastructure.

The National Weather Service warns that residents to be cautious when traveling outside. Wear adequate clothing to prevent prolonged skin exposure to the wind chill. Cover vegetation that may have adverse reactions to the cold. As well as taking steps to prevent pipes from freezing, including wrapping them and dripping them.

You're also encouraged to check on vulnerable residents, such as the elderly. Make sure portable heaters are being used correctly, and do not use generators or grills inside.
