Former LSU Tiger Buys Supplies For Shreveport Youth
Springhill native and NFL linebacker and former LSU star Devin White came home to Shreveport this past week to make a difference, and "give back to his community."
Teaming up with the Shreveport Police Department and Academy Sports & Outdoors, White hosted a shopping spree for several local young athletes. 10 local athletes each received a $150 gift card to Academy Sports to be spent however they wished. Shreveport Police officers helped each athlete as they shopped.
Devin White's football career began as a standout linebacker and running back at North Webster High School in Springhill. As an LSU Tiger, White wreaked havoc on offenses for three years, from 2016-2018. He became the first player in SEC history to be named Defensive Player of the Week four times in one season.
White entered the NFL draft in 2019, forgoing his Senior Season at LSU, and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the fifth overall pick in the first round, making him the highest drafted LSU defensive player since Patrick Peterson in 2011. He is also the highest drafted linebacker in school history.
As a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, White had an immediate impact on an improving defense. He made his presence known immediately being named NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for November his rookie season. Tampa Bay recently exercised the fifth year option on White's contract.
