What Catholic Churches Will Host Fish Fries in Shreveport

Lent kicks off on Wednesday of next week and this is a special time for Catholics around the globe. It's a 40 day period of fasting and prayer to prepare for the Easter celebration.

The Conference of Catholic Bishops says this is a time for Catholics to "serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully."

On Fridays during Lent, Catholics are encouraged to abstain from eating meat. That means fish is a top alternative.

Several local churches host fish fries during Lent. Some of them are at lunchtime and others are in the evening. Here are the ones we have found that will be hosting these events.

St. Joseph Catholic Church

Location: 211 Atlantic Ave, Shreveport

Dates: Every Friday during Lent (Feb 20, Feb 27, March 6, 13, 20, and 27)

Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Details: Hosted by K of C Council 1108. Plates typically include fried catfish, fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

Location: 1558 Buena Vista Street, Shreveport

Dates: Every Friday during Lent (Feb 20, Feb 27, March 6, 13, 20, and 27)

Time: 11:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Details: Dinners are $10 for catfish filets, potato salad, green beans, tartar sauce and dessert.
