Here's everything you need to know about getting signed up for Shreveport's legendary Firecracker 5k!

What makes the Firecracker 5k so special?

Obviously, it happens over the 4th of July weekend and participants generally dress patriotically, but the real reason why the Firecracker 5k is so well known is that it's run during one of the hottest times of the year and the hills are BRUTAL. However, the race is still a ton of fun and friendly residents are happy to spray you down with hoses, sprinklers, water guns, you name it!

The 38th Annual Firecracker 5k Race for Research is ready to take runners on a tour of Shreveport's historic South Highlands neighborhood on Monday, July 4th, 2022, starting at 8 am at Mall St. Vincent. Don't worry, I'm using the term 'runner' loosely because there are plenty of sloggers like me who get lapped by parents with strollers. Don't judge me.

Festivities at the Firecracker 5k include live music, food and drinks, and the ceremonial starting. Also, this year, LSU standout Will Dart is going to do his best to beat Ben Chesar’s record time of 14:38 set in 2014.  Will won the 2020 Firecracker 5k with a time of 15:25. Best of luck to you Will! I don't think I've finished any faster than 54 minutes and some change.

Partial proceeds from the event will benefit The Spine Institute of Louisiana Foundation. The Spine Institute is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and its mission is to improve current spine treatments and develop new ones through innovative research.
