Everything’s Bigger in Texas, Even the Speed Limit
Texas can now boast something else. It soon will have the highest speed limit of any state in the country.
The Lone Star State will open a stretch of highway, where motorists can go 85 miles an hour. The Texas Transportation Commission has approved the fastest speed limit for a 41-mile-long toll road near the crowded Interstate 35 corridor that runs between Austin and San Antonio.
Some drivers can't wait to put the pedal to the metal, but others are worried that such a fast speed limit may not be safe. There already are some 80 mile per hour roads in rural West Texas along some highways, but most US roads are 75 mph.
