Shreveport's Eden Gardens Fundamental Magnet Elementary School is one of three-hundred schools nationwide to be named a 2011 "National Blue Ribbon School" by the U-S Education Department. Education Secretary Arne Duncan says National Blue Ribbon Schools are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Five other Louisiana schools have also made the Blue Ribbon list, but Eden Gardens is the only one in this area. The National Blue Ribbon School program recognizes schools that are high-performing or have improved student achievement to high levels -- especially among disadvantaged students. It recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools.
