Yesterday, when I read the article about applications being taken now for the upcoming alligator harvest season, all those episodes of Swamp People flashed before my eyes and made me thing, "Man, that's got to be a tough way to make a living."

Of course, I thought that while working in my air conditioned office, out of the weather, and far away from any vicious animal set on having me for lunch.

So, the thought occurred to me, "Just what are the most dangerous jobs here in North Louisiana?"

As high school and college graduates from all over our area embark on their careers, some will find employment working in some of these areas, and it was startling to see that we have people employed here in our neck of the woods representing all ten of the most dangerous jobs in the whole country.

In the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, these are the Ten Most Dangerous Jobs in America.

• Fishing and Hunting Workers - Told you that alligator hunting was dangerous
• Logging Workers
• Aircraft pilots and flight engineers
• Roofers
• Construction trades and helpers
• Refuse and recyclable material collectors
• Driver/sales workers and truck drivers
• Structural iron and steel workers
• Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers
• Grounds maintenance workers

Guess I just don't understand how military personnel and first responders didn't make the list. And I noted the absence of oil and gas industry workers, but maybe it's not as dangerous now as it was in previous times?
