Members of Disabled American Veterans of Louisiana Chapter 1 have donated $1,000 to Operation Blessing.

That's the food bank program administered by the Bossier Sheriff's Office.  It provides food items to more than 100 needy families in Bossier Parish every week.  In addition, deputies will deliver more than 500 special Christmas food boxes to needy families during the holidays.

Bossier Parish schools will begin their food drive for Operation Blessing in early November.  Donations can be made at any school or at any of the three Bossier Sheriff's substations.

The veterans group also donated $5,000 to the Bossier Sheriff's Young Marines program last month.
