Diocese of Shreveport’s Founding Bishop, William Friend, Dies at Age 83
The founding bishop of the Diocese of Shreveport has died at his home in Coral Springs, Florida.
According to the diocese website, Bishop Friend died April 2, 2015. He was 83. Current Bishop Michael Duca says Friend left the diocese in wonderful shape.
"His many years of work to create an active and dedicated community of priests and lay faithful is a tribute to his enormous skill and pastoral leadership," Duca said on the website. "All of us within our worship community remain grateful for his ministry to us."
Bishop Friend's vigil will be held Monday, April 13, beginning at 6:30PM. His funeral is Tuesday, April 14, at 11AM. Both will take place at the Cathedral of St. John Berchman's, located at 939 Jordan Street in Shreveport.
