The Louisiana State Fire Marshal is currently investigating a late-night house fire that killed an 88 year-old woman.

On Tuesday night, Claiborne Parish Fire District #6 responded to a house fire on Liberty Hill Road. When they arrived on scene, they found the house fully engulfed in flames. Sadly, the 88 year-old homeowner was found inside of the home dead.

Deputies have not yet determined if the house had a working smoke detector. The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.

The State Fire Marshal is urging the public to have working smoke alarms in their homes, and to test them regularly.

From the State Fire Marshal:

“We want every family in Louisiana to know that a working smoke alarm can be the difference between tragedy and survival. Through our Operation Save-A-Life program, we’re here to help by providing and installing smoke alarms at no cost, because every life matters.”

For more information or to request a free smoke alarm installation, visit lasfm.org or contact your local fire department.
