A head-on crash in Red River Parish has claimed the life of a Coushatta man.

State Police say their preliminary investigation shows that a 2010 Dodge Avenger driven by 70-year-old Daniel Cotton of Coushatta was traveling east on LA 784, about 4 miles east of US 71, when it crossed the center line.  Cotton's car collided head-on with a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by 17-year-old Caidon Campbell.

Troopers say Cotton, though restrained at the time, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner.  Campbell and his 15-year-old passenger were also restrained and sustained only minor injuries.

State Police say toxicology samples have been obtained and submitted for analysis.  Meantime, the crash remains under investigation.
