Shreveport and Bossier City has already been dealing with tons of delays crossing the Red River on I-20. Those delays aren't going away any time soon, with that project expected to take years to complete.

Now, due to that construction, there has been a lot of additional traffic congestion on other roads around Shreveport and Bossier City. Because for some reason, a metro area the size of Shreveport and Bossier only have 5 crossings over the Red River. That's right, there are just 5 options that connect the two cities. Including one that is a far out-of-date two-lane bridge.

So when the Louisiana Department of Transportation plans to shut one of these bridges down, while another has massive construction happen adjacent to it, and the other bridges dealing with that overflow, its probably going to cause some serious issues.

KSLA reports the Louisiana Department of Transportation will be shutting down the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge on LA-3032 on Friday, October, 20th, 2023. The closure will begin around 8am, and is expected to last into the afternoon. This is being done for "deck repairs" on the bridge.

While its a great idea to do work on this bridge, and hopefully keep it in better shape than the Jimmie Davis Bridge, doing it while you already have issues on the other four options is going to pose problems. Especially when the recommended detour is that same Jimmie Davis Bridge that visibly looks structurally deficient. Its also only a 2 lane road...so...

Anyway, Friday morning might be the day to leave REALLY early for work if you have to commute between Shreveport and Bossier City.
