A few weeks ago, representatives from The American Rose Center told the Caddo Commission they did not have the funding to put on Christmas in Roseland this year. The management urged the Commission to help with funding for this years’ event.
Now, the Economic Development Committee of the Commission has voted to approved funding for the event this year.

What Happens Now with Holiday Event

One of northwest Louisiana’s most cherished holiday attractions — Christmas in Roseland — could be getting a much-needed boost from parish leaders.
The Caddo Commission’s Economic Development Committee voted to contribute $50,000 to the Gardens of the American Rose Society to help ensure the annual holiday light show continues to shine brightly. The full commission will take up the recommendation at its next meeting for final approval.

A Push to Support a Favorite Local Event

Commissioner Kenneth Epperson proposed parish funding for the event, citing its long history and economic impact. Epperson says: “They’ve been with us since 1972 — a good, strong economic engine. That area is growing exponentially. This would be a great catalyst to continue that in the future.”

Gardens Undergoing Major Restructuring

Allison Richardson, interim director for the American Rose Society says the organization is currently restructuring. The plan right now is to separate the national society and the gardens in Greenwood into two separate entities. The society has previously helped with funding for this event each year. Private money is also raised to fund the holiday spectacular.

The full Caddo Parish Commission is expected to vote on the funding proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
