Dr. Jackson has requested a "Director of Council Affairs," at a cost of $80,000-$100,000 per year. This person would serve as a liaison between the public and City Council.
In 2019, the Shreveport City Council passed a measure to give the council oversight on city contracts. The ordinance would have required Council approval for any contract over $1 million dollars. Mayor Adrian Perkins veto'd the measure saying it "would have impeded his administration's operations."
Boucher, a Republican, represents District D. The issue is, the City Council is majority Democrat, and will, in all likelihood, select a Democrat to take over his vacant seat. But is that fair to the citizens in that district who elected a Republican?
