A cashier has been arrested for her involvement in the theft of nearly $5,000 in merchandise from a local department store, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Tomika Carroll, 36, of Shreveport was employed as a cashier at Stage, where she used her position to steal merchandise.

Carroll was scanning merchandise at her assigned register for family members and then voiding the items, allowing them to leave with the merchandise without paying.

Sheriff’s Detective Casey Jones arrested Carroll for felony theft and booked her into the Shreveport CityJail. She is expected to be transferred to the Caddo Correctional Center. At the time of the arrest the amount of theft was nearly $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing with more arrests expected.
