Can Governor Edwards Hear Dr. Fauci On COVID?
At least half of the states across the US have had their COVID emergency declarations dropped. Even state's who have been hardcore with their COVID mandates have suddenly started to back away. Just yesterday, one of the most heavy-handed COVID policy states, New York, announced they are backing off some of their mandates. Even California announced they would be easing some of their restrictions.
Multiple democratic governors around the country started dropping guidance and declarations over the last couple weeks.
Here in Louisiana, we've been on autopilot for a little while. Multiple cities put mask mandates in place over the last couple of weeks, even if the science isn't supporting those efforts like it used to. These cities have all done this under the protection of Governor John Bel Edwards statewide COVID Emergency Declaration. An emergency order that was put in place in March of 2020, and has been repeatedly extended, instead of being allowed to expire.
The Governor more recently extended it in January.
But it's not just other states who are following the science of the day and dropping their COVID rules, it's "science" himself, Dr. Anthony Fauci. His quote that shook the ground we walk on this week was:
"As we get out of the full-blown pandemic phase, which we are certainly heading out of"
That's right, the guy that multiple Presidents have said they are following his word (above anyone else) is now telling us the emergency is over. So what comes next for a state like Louisiana? Will we follow this guidance and allow the statewide Emergency Declaration to end next week? Or will we live under this "emergency" forever?
