Caddo Student Arrested For Bringing Gun On Campus
It has happened again in Caddo Parish. It's a problem that will evidently not go away quietly.
Another student has brought a gun onto the campus of a Caddo Parish High School. In a news release from Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, we are told that yesterday morning, Wednesday, May 17, the Sheriff's School Resource Officer, Rufus Porter, at C.E. Byrd High School located a gun in a small backpack on a 16-year-old student after being alerted by the school administration.
The gun found was a loaded Glock 43 with ten 9mm rounds.
The student was then transported to the Criminal Investigation Division Office to continue the investigation. The investigation revealed that the student was involved with a previous incident involving a gun at another local high school. It has also been determined that the student is affiliated with a local gang. The teen was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile and Carrying a Firearm by a Student on School Property. He was booked into Caddo Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing to determine if there are more individuals involved in this incident.
The Sheriff’s Office is proud to dedicate a full-time SROs to several high schools in the City of Shreveport.
This is obviously a developing story and should there be additional updates, we will have that information immediately.
