18 year old Kevonte Dekorey Austin escaped work release duty and was later caught Tuesday afternoon after taking officers on a high speed chase. The events started after Webster Parish police pulled over a speeding truck on U.S. Highway 371. While the officer was talking to the driver outside the vehicle the passenger jumped in the driver seat and sped off. Police say that Austin reached speeds over 115 mph before hitting spike strips and a ditch sending the truck flying into the air.

The truck landed on a nearby parked car which luckily the people in the car were able to get out unharmed. Austin had been missing since Feb 8th after being in jail for stealing a vehicle and probation violation. The truck involved in the chase had been reported stolen.
