Bossier Police Juror in Hot Water Again
Rick Avery is in trouble once again. This time, Avery is accused of sexually abusing a woman in Washington DC during the Washington Mardi Gras event. A 55 year old Shreveport woman claims that during an argument in his hotel room, Avery pushed her to the floor, sexually assaulted her and stole her jewelry.
The woman contacted police in DC, but the event was "never papered" and charges were not filed. The woman claims she was then advised by the deputy chief U.S. Attorney, U.S. Attorney, and Domestic Violence advocate U.S. Attorney to file a protective order upon returning to Shreveport. The woman also claims that Avery continues to try and contact her and even threatened to sue her, take her to court and have her arrested.
She has been granted that protective order against the Bossier Parish Police Juror by a Caddo District Court. The order will remain in effect until August 29th, 2019.
This is not the first time Avery has garnered unpleasant headlines. In 2016, Avery made local news after a super controversial DWI arrest. During that encounter, Avery used racial slurs, threatened police and claimed that when he became Mayor of Bossier he would "fire all their asses".
No charges were filed in that cases either. But, several officers were disciplined and even fired because of the events.
