Bossier Parish Jail Passes State Recertification Audit, Sheriff Says
Bossier Parish’s Medium Security Facility has earned its annual state recertification, clearing a Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections inspection that looked at day to day operations, safety standards, and how the jail is managed from top to bottom.
What the State Inspection Looks At
Sheriff Julian Whittington’s office says the facility was reviewed under the State of Louisiana’s Basic Jail Guidelines during the yearly monitoring inspection. The result: inspectors found the jail fully compliant with the standards that apply to the operation.

Annual audits like this matter because they are a snapshot of whether a jail is meeting baseline expectations on everything from supervision to documentation. For the public, it is one of the few regular outside checks that answers a simple question: is the facility being run the way Louisiana requires?

According to the sheriff’s office, the audit highlighted several areas where inspectors saw strong performance. Those included clean and well maintained housing areas and common spaces, effective inmate accountability and count procedures, proper oversight of restricted housing, and timely maintenance that is well documented.

The release also points to inmate programming and grievance processes as a positive, along with staff professionalism, training, and morale.
In plain terms, that is the unglamorous stuff that keeps a facility stable. Clean spaces reduce health issues. Clear documentation helps prevent problems from being missed. Strong classification and count practices are foundational for safety, both for staff and inmates.
Whittington says Why it Matters to Bossier Parish
Whittington framed the certification as a public trust issue, not a trophy. “We take seriously our duty to the citizens of Bossier Parish to operate a safe, secure, and well-managed correctional facility,” he said, adding that the office also recognizes its responsibility to people in its care.
He also credited leaders in the Corrections Division, including Assistant Chief Kesha Evans, Major Brad Anderson, and Captain Scott Crawford, and said the result reflects daily attention to detail and accountability.
