The Bossier City Housing Authority has agreed to settle a race discrimination lawsuit. The suit claimed that the BCHA assigned residents to housing based on race instead of their place of waiting lists.

Vanita Gupta, the head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division says, “This settlement ensures equal access to federally-subsidized housing in Bossier City, and the department will continue to confront discriminatory policies or practices in the housing market throughout the country."

As part of the agreement, the BCHA will pay $120,000 and adopt new policies to not violate the Fair Housing Act in the future.
