Beauregard Parish has a $10 bounty on beaver.

Parish officials say beaver dams in Ragley have caused significant damage from flooding during heavy rains.

The American Press reports that the Beauregard Parish Police Jury approved the bounty Tuesday. Only parish residents may receive the bounty. They must be licensed and registered with the Police Jury.

Money for the bounties would come from the road districts where the beavers are caught. Hunters would bring in the tails to collect the bounty.

Police Jury President Llewellyn "Biscuit" Smith says the restriction to parish residents is to keep people from collecting bounties on tails of beavers caught in other states.

Jurors considered a $5 bounty but doubled the figure to draw more interest.
