The Common Cold

This is an upper respiratory system infection that is quite common in the first few weeks after children go back to school.

The cold spreads quickly among children because they are concentrated in a confined area where the flow of air may not be as good as it was in the summer. The children also touch lots of contaminated surfaces. The cold is the most likely illness you will see with children.

Treating the Cold

Give your child warm liquids, decongestants and vitamins and the symptoms should clear up in just a few days.
Stomach Illnesses

This is a common back to school illness which affects the stomach. This is more common this time of year because you no longer control the quality and the cleanliness of the food the eat.

There are some bacteria common in fruits and vegetables and they must be completely washed. Symptoms of Gastroenteritis  include diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. The condition should be handled as an emergency because it causes dehydration which could be dangerous.

Ear infections

The most common symptoms include pain in the ears and youngsters might also be cranky or moody.
You should be sure to take your child to a doctor to treat an ear infection.
Flu is also a very big concern this fall. The best thing to do to avoid the spread of flu is to be sure your child has gotten a flu shot.
