The Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross is re-locating to a new home. The new facility is located at 805 Brook Hollow in Shreveport. And officials say they'll soon begin training volunteers.

The new Red Cross building is next to Country Tavern by the auto mall.  Michelle Davison says the move will allow the Northwest Louisiana Red Cross provide even better services to people in need across our community.

For example, the new building will have a private interview room for caseworkers to meet with disaster victims and a private counseling room for military families to work with their counselors as they cope with a deployment or return home.

The new facility will also have a larger,  more functional Disaster Operations Center where volunteers will work during mid-to large-scale disasters, such as wide-spread flooding, tornadoes, or hurricane evacuations.

There's always a need for money donations and volunteers, according to Davison.  In fact, statewide volunteer training will be held on Saturdays, May 19th, June 9th and July 14th. Our local chapter will be able to train volunteers in the new building. Classes are free and will run from 9 am-1 pm in the new building.
