2022 Independence Bowl Projections For Week 13
We're just a couple weeks away from learning who will be coming to Shreveport for the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. The 2022 game will be played on Friday, December 23rd at 2pm. Tickets for the game are available now, even if we don't know who will be playing in the game yet. But we do have it narrowed down.
Sure, in the past we've seen teams like Alabama, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan State, and Georgia. Actually, there have been a lot of blue chip college football programs that have come through the Independence Bowl since its beginning. Even though some believe that the game will never see these type of programs again, they'd be wrong. Just look at the last few years.
In 2021, BYU was the highest rated team outside of the College Football Playoff system, and they played in the Indy Bowl. They're a blue chip program. In 2019 Miami (FL) played in Shreveport, and there's no argument about their program's resume. In 2017 it was Florida State, then in 2015 Virginia Tech. Since 2005 the game has seen programs like Oklahoma State, Alabama, Georgia, Boston College, and South Carolina.
It is fair to point out that the SEC no longer has an agreement with the Indy Bowl, so programs like LSU and Alabama are not likely to be coming back to Shreveport anytime soon. But the bowl does have agreements with BYU and Army, as well as multiple conferences. Still giving the game a chance to see some quality national brands in the game.
This also means the game will continue to welcome the future stars of the NFL. Players like Eli Manning, Willie Roaf, AJ Green, Von Miller, Daniel Jones, Bruce Smith, Alan Faneca, and Cam Akers have all played in the Indy Bowl before their pro careers.
Here's a look at what teams might be a part of this year's Indy Bowl after Week 12 of the college football season.
