2016 Heritage & Harvest Tour Set for First Saturday of Fall
There are a lot of events going on during the first weekend of fall. One that's become a big hit for our area is the Heritage & Harvest Tour.
The 2016 event will include tours of Killarney Farm in Dixie, McKinney Hill Farm in Hosston and other historic homes along Highways 71 North and 3049 in northern Caddo Parish.
The tour, sponsored by the Red River Crossroads Historical & Cultural Association, gives residents and visitors a chance to spend the day in the country "exploring the history and culture of the region."
Besides the historic homes, other points of interest include businesses, churches and attractions -- like Savvy Sisters, located on the former grounds of Hosston Public School, which will have arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment and fried fish plate lunches throughout the day. Communities that will be featured along the route are Dixie, Belcher, Gilliam, Hosston, Mira and Ida.
The Heritage & Harvest Tour runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, September 24. Tickets for tours are $10 each and can be purchased at Belcher Presbyterian Church at 508 Gray Street/Hwy. 3049, Crossroads Museum in Gilliam on Hwy. 3049, and at the homes featured on the tour.
If you need a brochure with a map of the tour route, you can pick one up at the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau's downtown visitor center at 629 Spring Street.
