Residents of the small, northeast Nebraska town of Pilger are beginning a seemingly impossible cleanup operation today after rare - and in this case deadly - twin tornadoes swept through the area, killing two and injuring 19 others, while destroying more than half the town's structures.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a pair of twisters hit the ground within a mile of each other. Emergency crews and residents spent the evening sorting through demolished homes and businesses in the tiny town of fewer than 400, about 100 miles from Omaha.
