A woman and her two children escaped their buring house on West 76th Street in the Cedar Grove Community after it caught fire early this morning.

Shreveport Fire Chief Fred Sanders tells 7-10 KEEL News six units numbering 20 firefighters arrived shortly before 3 am this morning to find heavy smoke and flames shooting out of the windows.

The woman told fire officials she had been burning a candle in a drawer for lighting because her electricity had not been connected. She said she was awakened to find flames at the window of the room where she was sleepoing. She quickly grabbed her two children and went outside to call 9-1-1.

Thankfully there were no injuries. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
