While there is currently no activity expected in the Shreveport Bossier area from Tropical Storm Karen, the Northwest Louisiana American Red Cross is ready by ensuring that volunteers and shelters remain on stand-by over the weekend, just in case they are needed to handle evacuees.

Across the Gulf, the Red Cross is preparing to respond across five states that include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. They are mobilizing trained workers, supplies and equipment; our Red Cross response vehicles from Louisiana to Georgia are on alert; and volunteers are ready to open shelters if needed.

The Red Cross is also working in close collaboration with government officials and community partners to coordinate potential response efforts.

The Red Cross pre-positioned supplies in advance of this year’s hurricane season. Dozens of trailers are already spread across the Gulf region, filled with cots, blankets, comfort kits and kitchen supplies.

Additional shelf stable meals are ready to go at a moment’s notice, and currently housed in states along the Gulf and East coasts.
